  4. Premium and insurance figure calculation

Click here to calculate your Statutory Earthquake Insurance premium figure.

The premium payable for the insurance is set through the Statutory Earthquake Insurance Tariff and Instructions. To calculate the premium figure, the first data required is the sum insured (coverage figure) representing the highest limit payable in the aftermath of an earthquake. The premium figure will be calculated by multiplying the coverage figure with the tariff price.

There are 15 tariff steps with reference to 5 risk zones and 3 construction types. The risk zones for earthquakes are delineated on the basis of the “Earthquake Regions of Turkey” map prepared by the Ministry of Development and Housing. The building types mentioned in that tariff are defined as follows:

A- Steel, concrete framework structures: These are the buildings incorporating a steel or concrete framework.

B- Ordinary masonry structures: These are the buildings lacking a framework, and made of dry rubble, masonry, brick or concrete bricquettes in their carrier walls, equipped with concrete or ferro-concrete flooring, stairs, and ceilings.

C- Other Buildings: These are the buildings which cannot be categorized under the groups specified above.

Insurance premium figures are subject to annual increases, in parallel to the increase in cost figures per square meter.
